I first came across Hanuman after reading the Hindu epic, the Ramayana. This story tells of the god Rama and his wife Sita being banished from their kingdom and residing in the forest. Sita was kidnapped by the evil Kind of Demons, known as Ravana. Hanuman encounters Rama on his search for Sita, and helps rescue Sita and return her to Rama.

Hanuman is pictured as a strong monkey holding a mace. He can expand and contract his body and can leap or fly great distances.

He is known for his pure devotion, as being extremely intellectual and for his absence of ego.
